Well Control Drilling/Workover (WellSharp) / Instructor Larry Chapman

Well Sharp Well Control Pre-requisites:  As of 2015, Chapman Well Control/Midland College PPDC offers IADC Well Sharp Well Control classes.  Contractors and well servicing personnel must successfully complete a driller’s level course prior to attending the Supervisory classes offered at Midland College.

Engineers and Operator Representatives and consultants with current Supervisor level cards that are current or not over 1 year out of date may attend a Supervisory level class.

Course approved by IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors) This school is designed to present the latest technology, equipment, and procedures utilized in maintaining control of a well during drilling and workover operations and to offer cost effectiveness and efficiency to the industry. Designed for drilling and workover personnel, especially drillers, toolpushers, operator representatives, engineers, or anyone involved in operating and servicing wells. Registrants have the option of surface only or surface and subsea stack designation. WellSharp Certificates are awarded upon successful completion of this course. IADC WellSharp guidelines require the full course be repeated every two years to maintain current well control certificates.

The learning outcome or objectives for this class include the participant successfully completing the course and demonstrating proficiency in controlling well control problems and applying procedures. This is measured by hands on exercises on the well control simulator and by taking a standardized test on a computer the last day of class. The minimum test scores used for successful completion are 70% and hands-on exercises are pass/fail based on the student executing procedures and material presented in class. The instructor monitors hands-on exercises and determines acceptable levels of participation. A proctor is brought in to monitor the standardized test.
