Gary J. Hires
Computer Instructor

Gary began working with technology at an early age. The junior high school he attended in Haltom City, Texas received an
emerging technology grant which afforded a lab of 10 Commodore Pet computers - an opportunity for a student 13 years old to experience and engage in something out of a science fiction novel. Gary quickly became the accidental techie for the teachers on campus - a small yet pivotal beginning to a life-long path of assisting others in the use of new technology. Although pursuing a Bachelor's degree of Music Education from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Gary still continued the journey of assisting others. From assisting professors with purchasing their first Apple computer to setting up his church's peer-to-peer network - Gary's passion and service to help others continued to be a driving force in his life. A position at Odessa High School brought Gary to wonderful West Texas. After 2 years of teaching, Gary was called into ministry as the Director of Education and Music at Memorial Christian Church where he continued to utilize his skills as an educator, but also as a technologist advocating the use of technology to help the church effectively communicate and forward all of the church's ministries through technology.  Gary was quick to network all of the computers at the church and then teach the staff as well as members how to effectively use the various applications.  During his employment with Memorial Christian Church, a member recognized his talents with technology and offered him a job working in the IT department of the County of Midland.  During his time working for the County of Midland, Gary was instrumental in creating and updating the website as well as implementing several upgrades to the website that made the various options more user friendly for the public.  In addition, he was involved the the continual networking and upgrading of the massive computer system.  He was also charged with formally training the employees how to use the various applications.  Gary currently works at Midland College in the Workforce Continuing Education department - a position which provides him many opportunities to share and educate a great number of people the many ways to leverage technology - for home, work and play.  Gary loves technology and loves sharing technology with others.  He is a true "Computer Geek"!
