The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) requires electrical licensing applicants meet the following criteria:

Residential Wireman - must complete 4,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a master electrician or residential wireman and pass the residential wireman exam administered by the TDLR

Journeyman Electrician - must complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a licensed master electrician and pass the journeyman electrician exam administered by the TDLR

Master Electrician - must complete at least 12,000 hours of on-the- job training under the supervision of a master electrician, must have held a journeyman license for at least two years, and must pass the master electrician exam administered by the TDLR
